Collegiate 4-H at Marshall University is a club dedicated to continuing the representation and build on the 4-H mission of head, heart, hands, and health in the collegiate space. The main goal of 4-H is to help the younger generation develop knowledge and skills in the areas of leadership, life skills, health, and well-being, animal care, and conservation by teaching them new concepts through hands-on experiences.

Our Mission is to provide a safe space for recreational gaming, while also giving back to the local community through fundraisers, donation boxes, and playing games with after-school programs.

We also provide Graduation chords once 25 hours of service is reached, as well as a graduation stole at 50 hours. Imagine an innovative and supportive leadership program where the students go on to become leaders across the university’s campus. From Greek life to Presidential Ambassadors, JMEL graduates have gone on to make tremendous strides in their chosen fields and extracurricular activities. Our award-winning students are the change that is the law of life.

The John Marshall Emerging Leaders (“JMEL”) offers undergraduate students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills in a high-energy, vibrant, and pro-active environment. The students participate in various versatile activities from team building exercises in amusement parks to resume building workshops with accomplished business professionals.

JMEL is an organization that prides itself on leadership through service. The JMEL students volunteer for multiple charitable organizations that include (but are not limited to) the Ronald McDonald House, Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter, etc. The students also participate in several service activities throughout the course of the year.

Throughout the program, students will gain knowledge about finances, ethics, values, and important life skills that are not typically learned in a classroom setting. The students will also take several trips to various places such as Kings Island, Cedar Lakes Resort, Carter Caves, etc. JMEL is an outlet for both the non-traditional and traditional underclassmen to learn vital skills in a non-competitive environment.

John Marshall Emerging Leaders Experience is a voluntary leadership development program designed for students needing support exploring their leadership potential. Students engage in experiences involving 3 central areas, which are ethical leadership, personal enrichment, and civic responsibility. Experiences include everything from attending a cultural event, reflecting upon a social issue, to completing self-assessment exercises.

Participation at many events will automatically count towards progress along the JMEL curriculum. Participation in certain organizations will also automatically count and a self-reflection is required after most experiences.

Through your participation in the John Marshall Emerging Leaders Experience, you will build a comprehensive record that will demonstrate your development of knowledge and transferable skills in key competency areas that focus on ethical leadership, personal enrichment, and civic responsibly. Your JMEL Experience profile will record and track your engagement and involvement, including events and workshops you attend, membership in organizations, and any volunteering you complete while at Marshall University. The Marshall University Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a student-run organization dedicated to providing a voice for students living within the university residence halls, in which their primary goal is to undergo efforts to make their academic home the best it can be. Fundamentally, the purpose of RHA is to represent and support all student residents on campus, including its own members. Park and Recreation Organization for Students (P.R.O.S.) is an organization that welcomes all students, regardless of major, to explore their interest in the great outdoors and recreation through diverse types of experiences. Students can participate in a range of recreation activities from playing games on the campus lawn to more adventurous activities such as camping, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, frisbee golf, and geocaching. Students have the opportunity to work in a greenhouse or participate in community service projects like cleaning parks. Then, there will be some seminars on topics such as outdoor skills or survival tips and the Natural Resources and Recreation Management program for anyone who wants to learn. Overall, this organization is the door to trying new recreation, learning by nature, deepening appreciation for the outdoors, making new friends, and just having a fun time.

The Roleplaying Club is dedicated to providing a safe space, access to resources, and a community in which students at Marshall University can meet to play and enjoy some of the world's best tabletop, board, and role-playing-based games and more. Beyond that, we offer a sense of community and create this bridge to close the gap between experienced players with years of experience, who can connect with those from other circumstances, and create this wealth of community knowledge and experience. We also have hands-on large-scale activities throughout the year, such as miniature paintings, public one-shot games (Games that only take place in one meeting), and raffles to further community investment in our club! All of these events also serve as critical bonding experiences for our members. Our meetings are a safe space for all students to come and gauge if they, too, would be interested in all of the joy that games, table-top games especially, have brought the members of our community. The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a professional association open to anyone interested in physics. One does not have to be a Physics Major to be a member. At the global level, [SPS](https://www.spsnational.org/) members include not only physics majors, but also students and professionals in astronomy, chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, mathematics, medicine, and other fields. Within SPS is a separate association, [Sigma Pi Sigma](https://www.sigmapisigma.org/sigmapisigma) (ΣΠΣ). Sigma Pi Sigma is the national physics honor society, which elects members on the basis of outstanding academic achievements. If you want get involved in SPS and become a member, contact Dr. Sean P. SPS is a chapter-based society that exists to help students transform themselves into contributing members of the professional community. Traditional coursework develops only one range of skills. Other skills needed to flourish professionally include effective communication and personal interactions, leadership experience, establishing a personal network of contacts, presenting scholarly work in professional meetings and journals, research experiences, and outreach services to the campus and local communities. Through its members, advisers, chapters, and leadership, SPS enables national initiatives and local impacts within the community. Locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, the SPS offers the opportunity for these important enrichments to the student’s experience.

Here at Marshall, as of fall 2019, our SPS organization is mostly comprised of physics majors; however, we are always looking to recruit from other majors, especially those in science education or STEM related fields. The main objective of SPS at Marshall is to have fun as a group. We encourage interested students in the sciences, and physics in particularly, to develop and grow in their knowledge base of science and physics related research, develop a strong collegiate bond between faculty and students, promote public interest and awareness in science in general and specifically physics, and recognize high levels of student achievements by means of a Sigma Pi Sigma induction.

Since fall 2019, decided by the then current SPS members and continued until now, it was decided that SPS would be more of an outreach and recruiting student organization for the Physics Department, either focusing efforts on assisting with the outreach activities currently conducted by Dr. Sean P. McBride, or by others in the Physics Department, or assisting with the group’s own outreach activities that they devise. In spring 2020, through Fall 2021, many of the planned outreach events were or will be cancelled; however, SPS students were still able to conduct virtual outreach and promote physics and the department via their virtual Faces of Physics speaker Series (more details found below). The SPS group does have interests in fundraising activities in an effort to save money to go on a fun/cool/educational trip at the end of either the semester or academic year depending on how much money is raised and available. At the end of every semester would be ideal for a trip. This trip could be to a national lab/school/graduate program/etc. An additional goal for SPS will also be networking for the students for future employment; so, meetings will likely host speakers from academia and industry.

Engineering is a primarily male dominated field, which can discourage and stress women who wish to join the profession. As a result, many women tend to switch majors or drop out when encountered with the stigma associated with being a woman in STEM. Through SWE, we wish to alleviate this issue by creating a support group among women engineering students. Upperclassmen women would be able to serve as leaders and mentors as one advances in their degree. Furthermore, we wish to conduct outreach to various schools and organizations in the area to encourage young women to explore STEM fields. Lastly, SWE will serve as a foundation to help students network with companies in the area to ensure women a successful and equal position in the field.

It is part of the First2 Network, a statewide initiative focused on supporting first-generation, rural, and underrepresented STEM students. First2 provides resources, mentorship, and opportunities—including stipends for research and internships—with the goal of improving STEM education across West Virginia and doubling the graduation rate of underrepresented STEM majors.

UKIRK (meaning “University Church”) is a network of college ministries supported by the Presbyterian Church (USA). We are charged with reaching, loving, and teaching college students so they may be lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.

We meet weekly for fellowship and worship on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in the Campus Christian Center.

A-SLAY-ing Grace is a support group for LGBTQ+ students to talk about issues of faith. This is not a Bible study, but an open and affirming space to share experiences and offer support to one another.

Finding open and affirming faith communities
Queer biblical figures of faith
Resources on queer faith

Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) at Marshall University is a student chapter of the national WiCyS organization dedicated to promoting women’s education, participation, and leadership in the field of cybersecurity. The chapter is organized in alignment with National WiCyS and serves the following purposes:

To decrease the gender disparity in cybersecurity.

To provide education, mentorship, and networking support to students through the WiCyS community.

To promote and recruit women in the cybersecurity workforce through the Academic Institution.

The chapter additionally supports technical education, professional development, leadership experience, community engagement, and outreach that benefit Marshall University students.
